Haul-away or bin drop, and why it is your call
Both cost the same, because the work is identical up to the moment the bag either goes in our vehicle or your can. The decision is about your household rather than about price.
Bin drop suits people whose collection day falls conveniently and who have can capacity to spare. Haul-away suits small cans, shared bins, long gaps between collections, and anyone who simply does not want it sitting there through a hot week.
Where dog waste is supposed to go
In the regular household waste stream, not the green or compost bin. Dog waste is not garden waste and it does not belong in municipal composting, which is not run at temperatures that reliably handle the pathogens involved.
It should also not go down the toilet if the property is on septic, which matters here more than it does in most places. Large parts of Perris, Nuevo, Good Hope, Homeland, and rural Winchester are on septic systems, and dog waste introduces material those systems are not designed to process.

About compostable bags
Compostable bags only compost in industrial conditions that a household compost heap does not reach, and a landfill does not reach either. In a landfill they behave much like a conventional bag.
We are not going to tell you they solve a problem they do not solve. We double bag because thin bags split, which is a practical decision about the bag holding together between your yard and its destination rather than an environmental claim.

Where does the waste actually go?
Off your property in our vehicle, to a legal disposal point. Dog waste is not green waste and does not belong in a compost bin, and on a septic system it should not go down the toilet either. If you choose bin drop instead, it goes in your regular household can.
Does haul-away cost extra?
No. Haul-away and bin drop are the same price, because the work is the same up to the point where the bag either goes in our vehicle or your can. It is a preference recorded on your ticket, not an upgrade.
What does it mean when a scooper will haul away pet waste?
It means nothing we pick up stays at your home. When we haul away pet waste, the sealed bags ride off in our vehicle and we get rid of them elsewhere. The other option, bin drop, puts those same bags into your own trash can.
Can I put dog poop in my regular trash can?
Yes. Bagged dog waste belongs with ordinary household trash. Tie the bag shut, and use two bags if the first one is thin. If your local hauler has its own rules about bagging, follow those. On bin drop, this is exactly what we do for you.
Can dog poop go in the green waste or compost bin?
No. Yard trimmings and food scraps go there, and dog droppings are neither. City composting is not set up to deal with the germs that can live in pet feces. Bagging it for the trash can is the right choice, even if the bag says compostable.
Is it okay to flush dog poop down the toilet?
Not if your home is on a septic tank, which is common in the rural parts of our area. A septic system is built for household use and dog waste adds a load it was not sized for. On city sewer, check with your provider first.
Are compostable dog poop bags better for the environment?
Less than the label suggests. Those bags need the heat of an industrial composting plant to break down, and a backyard pile or a landfill never gets there. We pick bags for strength, so they stay in one piece on the trip out of your yard.
Should I pick haul-away or bin drop?
Pick the one that fits your trash setup, since the price does not change. Bin drop works well if pickup day is close and your can has room. Haul-away is better for a small or shared can, or if you dislike the smell in summer.
Will my trash can smell if you put the dog waste in it?
Two bags hold most of it in, but a can sitting in inland summer sun for days can still get strong. On bin drop routes we think about your collection day when we schedule. If odor near the house bothers you, choose haul-away and it never arrives.
Do you ever leave bags of dog waste by the curb or the gate?
Never. A visit is not finished while a bag is still sitting out somewhere on your property. It either goes inside your can or it goes with us, whichever you chose when you signed up. We also will not drop it in a neighbor's can.
