Bending repeatedly, twisting while holding something, and walking uneven ground with your eyes down are three of the most common ways somebody older falls in their own garden. A garden is also where a fall is least likely to be witnessed quickly.
A fall at that age is frequently a hip, and a hip is frequently the start of a much longer decline. Set against that, the weekly cost of not doing the task yourself stops looking like a lifestyle expense and starts looking like a fairly cheap way to remove a known risk.
The thing people are actually worried about
Most people who call about this are not struggling with their dog. They are struggling with one specific task, and underneath the call there is often a worry that admitting it is the first step toward somebody deciding the dog has to go.
It is not, and it is worth saying plainly. Yard maintenance is one job among many. Feeding, company, and the routine that gets somebody out of a chair in the morning are all completely unaffected by another person picking up the yard once a week.
What the service does not ask of you
The point of this plan is that it runs without requiring anything physical from you, so it is worth being explicit about what that means in practice.
You do not need to be outside, meet anyone at the gate, unlock anything on the day, carry a bin, or handle a bag. You do not need to be home. If a gate code changes, a phone call is enough and nobody needs you to write anything down.
You also do not need to inspect the work. The photograph shows the yard and the latched gate, and it arrives whether or not you ask for it. If something was missed, telling us is one message and the fix happens on the next visit rather than becoming a discussion.

Do I need to be there when you come?
No, and for most people on this arrangement that is the point. If you would rather be there, tell us and we will keep the same slot each week so it is predictable. Either way we knock rather than appearing at the side gate unannounced.
Can you help with anything else while you are here?
We clean the yard and we walk the dog. We are not a care service and we will not pretend otherwise, because the moment we start doing things outside that scope we are doing them without training or insurance for it.
Who can pick up dog poop for me if I cannot bend down anymore?
We can. A technician comes to your yard on a set day, picks up everything, bags it, and sends a picture when the job is finished. It is offered in ten cities around Winchester, and you can arrange it by phone if forms are a bother.
How much does pet waste removal for seniors cost?
Senior and mobility scooping is quoted for your yard, because the number of dogs, the lot, and how often we come all change the work. Our pricing page shows where regular scooping rates start, and the quote tool gives you a starting number before you speak to anyone.
How often should the yard be cleaned if I can no longer do it myself?
For most homes with one or two dogs, once a week keeps the yard clean and safe to walk across. We suggest starting there. If it turns out to be too little, adding visits later is simple, and we would sooner you start small.
Do I have to carry the bags or take the trash can out?
No. You choose one of two ways when we set up. Either we take the waste away with us in our vehicle, or we place it, bagged twice, in your own can. You never need to lift, carry, or touch a bag.
Will the same person come to my house each time?
We send the same technician whenever our routes allow it, because a familiar face is easier to open the door to. We cannot promise it every single week. Whoever comes will text first, knock on arrival, and has passed a background check.
Can my son or daughter see that the yard was done?
Yes. Give us the name and number of a family member and the visit pictures go to them as well as to you. Many of our older clients like this, since it saves a phone call and lets family stop asking about the yard.
Can you walk my dog as well if I cannot walk far these days?
Yes. Our Walk and Scoop plan puts a private walk and the yard cleanup into one stop. It only makes sense if your dog is not getting out enough, so we will ask about that first and meet you both before the first walk.
Is it safe to let a yard service in when I live alone?
It is a fair thing to ask. We are licensed and insured, and our technicians are background checked. You hear from us before we arrive, and any gate code is kept on your service ticket only. We work outside and do not need to come indoors.
