Lawn repair and urine burn treatment

Nitrogen burn has a signature that almost nothing else copies: a dead or yellowed centre ringed by grass that is noticeably darker and thicker than the surrounding lawn. That ring is the tell. It is the same nitrogen acting as fertilizer at the diluted edge while it scorches at the concentrated middle.

Getting the diagnosis right is the whole of urine burn lawn repair, because the three things it gets confused with all need different treatment. Fungal patches lack the dark ring and usually have irregular, spreading edges rather than a rough circle. Grub damage produces turf that lifts away easily because the roots have been eaten, which burn does not do. Drought stress is broad and uneven rather than circular. Getting this wrong is expensive, because seeding over a fungal patch feeds the fungus.

It is about delivery, not chemistry. Female dogs and large dogs produce more visible damage because a single squatting position puts the whole volume in one place, whereas a dog that marks distributes the same nitrogen across many spots at a dose the lawn can absorb.

Diet plays a smaller role than the internet suggests. There is no supplement that reliably prevents this without changing your dog's urine chemistry in ways worth discussing with a vet first. We do not sell one and we would be sceptical of anyone who does.

This is the one add-on where the visit is mostly diagnosis. Confirmed burn spots get the dead crown raked out, the soil treated, and seed worked in. Spots that turn out to be something else get flagged rather than treated, because seeding over a fungal patch wastes your money.
